Typically, when you want to move abroad, you are also looking to find a job. It can be intimidating to search for job offers when you don’t know much about the country and don’t know how to speak the language.
Here are some tips to help you get started and find a job abroad!
Start Networking
Before you even arrive at your destination, you can start networking. It is a great way to connect with others who may be able to link you to a potential job offer.
Nowadays, it’s easier than ever to find a job through the support of social media. In fact, I just went into Facebook and typed in the search bar “Jobs abroad in Italy.” Group after group popped up.
These groups were specifically designed for people to share opportunities. Businesses use them to search for the right candidate and potential employees use them to find jobs! It’s one of the most wonderful things about social media.
Polish up your resume
You are moving to another country and let’s face it….things are different. It’s a great idea to do a quick google search for what is acceptable on your resume.
Perhaps your destination wants certain features you wouldn’t normally apply. Maybe your future employer wants a super trendy video resume. It’s always best to do your homework and find out.
Discover what they want and take the time to tweak your resume to their liking. It can make all the difference in your success when trying to find and obtain a job.

Find a job in your new country
It’s time to think about what you want to do. Do you want to work in the tourism industry? It’s a great niche to find a job, seeing as Italy has about 5.6 million American tourists that visit each year.
Some easy positions to find in the tourism sector:
- Cruise ship guest services
- Restaurants in the “touristy” & popular cities
- Hotels
- Tour guide

Online Teaching Positions
Want to work from home? Working online is a growing option and a great way to find a job even before arriving to your new place abroad.
The best paying (any 4 year degree is acceptable):
I have been teaching English online with VIPKID for several years now. You don’t have to be a certified teacher and I love that you get to make your own schedule (from the time slots available.)
The hours in Italy are actually even better for me! I used to work 5-10AM EST (in Florida) but now I work 9-2 in Italy. #Winning! It’s been a stable, main source of income for me. If you want to apply, please use my link! 🙂
As a thank you, I will email you some helpful hints on how to rock your interview. Sharing is Caring!
Doesn’t require a degree:
Qkids is another great English teaching gig online. The curriculum is really cute and it doesn’t require you to have a Bachelor’s degree. My cousin is a nurse and does this on the side. Take a peek and if you want to sign up, please use his link!!
Some other online teaching platforms I’ve heard about are:
- Magic Ears
- iTutorGroup
- EF (Education First)
- Cambly
I’ve either personally taught with these other platforms or know someone who has. They are all reputable companies.

Online Misc Positions
Online jobs are becoming more and more popular and now thanks to COVID, tons of businesses have realized that it is a great way to social distance their employees.
While there are tons of really low paying online contracts, there are also some genuinely well-paying positions. I came across this fantastic article where Adam Enfroy tells the top 11 best work from home jobs. Thanks Adam!
